Six Days Between Shanghai and the Lake
Experience China through two worlds of quiet refinement — a reassembled Ming village hidden within a camphor forest and the timeless serenity of Hangzhou’s West Lake. From private heritage walks and traditional tea ceremonies to misty lake cruises, ancient temples, and peaceful tea terraces, every moment is designed to slow the pace and reconnect you with China’s cultural soul. Designed for couples who value privacy, authenticity, and the luxury of travelling without haste.
Days 1 to 2: Amanyangyun
Begin your journey in one of China’s most extraordinary retreats, where centuries-old Ming and Qing dynasty houses have been painstakingly relocated and restored within a tranquil camphor forest on Shanghai’s outskirts. Here, heritage is experienced not through museums but by living within it, with private walks through the preserved village, moments of quiet reflection over traditional tea, and the rare opportunity to experience Shanghai from a place of complete seclusion before venturing briefly into the city’s vibrant contrasts.
DAY 1Arrival
Your journey begins on the edge of Shanghai, but the city can wait: you are carried out to a camphor forest where an entire village of Ming and Qing houses, saved from a rising reservoir, was dismantled and rebuilt whole, tree by ancient tree. You settle into one of these four-hundred-year-old homes, and the first evening is the forest at dusk, the old timber and stone around you, the quiet strangeness of sleeping inside a rescued piece of the past.of the adventure.
- Activities: VIP fast-track; transfer to Amanyangyun. Camphor forest at dusk.
- Meals: Dinner at the resort.
- Accommodation: Amanyangyun, Shanghai — courtyard villa.

DAY 2The Antique Village
A day spent inside the saved village and the patience that created it. With a heritage guide you walk among the four-hundred-year-old houses and come to understand the years of painstaking work it took to move them, an act of preservation so devoted it approaches art. A tea ceremony marks the slow centre of the afternoon, and the traditional bathhouse closes the day, the whole of it an education in a virtue this journey will keep returning to.
- Activities: Private walk through the reassembled village with a heritage guide; tea-ceremony introduction; traditional bathhouse.
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the resort.
- Accommodation: Amanyangyun.

DAY 3Shanghai City
A single measured half-day is enough to feel Shanghai without letting it take over. You walk the colonial waterfront of the Bund, its European facades facing the science-fiction skyline across the river, wander the plane-shaded lanes of the former French Concession, and step into the Ming-dynasty garden hidden in the old town, before the quiet of the forest draws you back, the city experienced as a vivid interlude rather than the main event.
- Activities: Private half-day into the city — the Bund, French Concession, Yu Garden.
- Meals: Breakfast at the resort. Lunch in the city. Dinner at the resort.
- Accommodation: Amanyangyun.

Days 4 to 6: Hangzhou
The journey concludes among the mist-covered hills and timeless beauty of Hangzhou, where ancient tea villages, forested temples, and the poetic landscapes of West Lake create one of China’s most celebrated cultural settings. Unhurried boat rides, encounters with tea masters, and peaceful walks through centuries of history invite you to embrace a slower rhythm, ending the journey immersed in the elegance and serenity that have inspired Chinese poets for generations.

DAY 4To West Lake
A private high-speed train, gliding at three hundred kilometres an hour with barely a sensation of speed, carries you to Hangzhou and a converted tea village set in a wooded valley. The evening is the estate at dusk, the tea terraces rising on the slopes above, the pace slowing to match a landscape Chinese poets have praised for a thousand years.
- Activities: Private high-speed rail transfer (approx. 1 hr); estate at dusk.
- Meals: Breakfast in Shanghai. Dinner at Amanfayun.
- Accommodation: Amanfayun, Hangzhou.

DAY 5West Lake
The lake the poets loved, met at dawn before the day arrives. A private boat carries you out onto West Lake through the morning mist, the causeways and pavilions emerging softly from the water, and you walk the Longjing tea terraces with a tea master and step into the cliffside grottoes of Lingyin, read as art and history. It is a day given to the particular calm that this corner of China has cultivated for a millennium.
- Activities: Private boat on West Lake (UNESCO cultural landscape) at dawn; tea fields walk with a tea master; Lingyin Temple’s grottoes as art and history.
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the resort.
- Accommodation: Amanfayun.

DAY 6Departure
A last quiet morning among the terraces before a private transfer, or the high-speed train back to Shanghai, carries you onward for your flight.
- Activities: Private transfer to Hangzhou airport, or high-speed rail to Shanghai (approx. 1 hr) for international connection.
- Meals: Breakfast included.
