Day 1
Arrival on the Bosphorus
You arrive on the strait that divides two continents, and settle into a palace that once belonged to sultans — the water at the foot of the terrace, the ferries crossing between Europe and Asia, the call to prayer moving across the city as the light goes. Nothing is asked of you tonight but to sit on the water’s edge and understand where you are.
Day 2
Empires & Water
The old city, taken before it fills. You walk Topkapı — the palace from which an empire of three continents was run — and stand beneath the dome of Hagia Sophia, which has been the largest room in the world for the better part of a thousand years, read here as architecture and history rather than worship. Then the strait itself, by private yacht, Europe on one bank and Asia on the other, the palaces of the Bosphorus sliding past.
Day 3
Into the Fairy Chimneys
A short flight carries you to a landscape unlike anywhere on earth — Cappadocia, where ten million years of ash have been carved by wind and water and human hands into towers, cones and whole underground cities. You settle into a suite cut into the rock itself, and the first evening is simply the valley: the strange stone forms going gold, then violet, then dark.
Day 4
The Balloon
You lift before dawn, alone in your own basket, and the valley opens beneath you — hundreds of other balloons rising with the sun, the rock formations throwing long shadows, the whole surreal landscape silent but for the burner. It is the kind of morning people carry for the rest of their lives. The rest of the day is yours to do nothing at all, which is the point.
Day 5
Underground & Rock
A day among the strangest works of human patience — an underground city carved eight levels deep, where thousands once sheltered; the rock-cut chapels of the open-air valleys; the citadel of Uçhisar rising over it all. In the evening, a dinner set privately in a cave, candlelight on stone that people have been shaping for two thousand years.
